Thanksgiving
Why do we celebrate this holiday?
Originally Thanksgiving was to give thanks to God for the bounty of the autumn harvest. In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. This year Thanksgiving Day is on November 24 th 2005. In Canada, where the harvest generally ends earlier in the year, Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated on the second Monday in October. With the assault of various holidays and such that are deemed politically incorrect I am suprized that Thanksgiving is getting a pass this year. In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on Columbus Day. Here in the states, Christopher Columbus is remembered for bringing death and enslavement to the natives of North America. Thanksgiving is an extension of what Columbus started, and this association is more easily understood when you are aware that Columbus Day and Thanksgiving day are one in the same up in Canada. Personally I believe that if in weren't Columbus it would have been someone else, and the "peaceful" native people were fighting and killing each other long before the white guys arrived. I am offended that a few people are offended and are screwing up the lives of the rest of us. Get over it. I think that atheism is a religon, and when I don't see any symbols of Christianity around it is their way of forcing their athiest religon on the rest of us (sorry if I offended anyone with that little rant, but not really).
Remember the past. Plan for the future. Live today.
As for me, I have much to be thankful for. Family, Friends, and Opportunity.
School has been going well. As for anesthetics, 40 down 510 to go. I am really enjoying the Hospital in Butler. It is a fairly fast pace, but they are providing me with a lot of opportunities to learn and have been very patient with me in the process.
Just 3 weeks until final exams. This semester has gone by so quickly. I have so much catching up to do. It seems like I am always behind on my reading and studying, but I am having a great time so far.
